Home Buyer Question: Is This Normal?

This is a very common question that typically arises during the contract to closing process of buying a home.

Is this normal? Well, normal doesn’t really exist but if it’s occurring then yes it’s normal for your experience.

Each and every contract to closing journey is unique to your individual experience. That’s part of what I love about my work: every buyer, every journey is unique. Sure, there are some commonalities but no two home buying journeys will look exactly alike.

The contract to closing process is when we’ve found the house, we have a (written) purchase contract and we’re moving toward closing on your home. It’s when multiple processes are merging and coalescing toward the same end goal of you completing your home purchase.

With multiple processes moving and merging, this is also when hiccups, speed bumps and even detours will crop up. These could be additional info or documents needed by the lender, issues related to an appraisal, things that arise during due diligence negotiations, even “acts of god” such as weather related issues.

The key to keep in mind during this time is: You are not allowed to panic unless I tell you it’s time to panic. You have a team of professionals in place for a reason and we’ll guide you as you navigate your journey.

Your real estate broker and mortgage pro navigate this process all the time and our conversations with you will be solution oriented. Assessing where we are and evaluating what the best next steps for you are, so that you’re making informed decisions as we move forward.

So, is this normal? Normal as in a one size fits all journey simply doesn’t exist, so let’s explore and evaluate what the next best step may be for you and YOUR home buying journey.

Marathons are completed literally one step at a time. The journey of buying a home is no different.
