Business (and Life) Advice to My Former Self

This October marks the 13th anniversary of my becoming a Realtor®

I am a much different version of myself than I was back in 2004, WAY more aligned with my authentic self than ever before. So if I were able to give my former self some business and life in general advice, I’d tell her:

You have unique gifts, talents, abilities and you express them as only you can. Your gifts and talents are the reason you’re here, share them freely with everyone around you.

Not everyone will like, approve of, or become a close connection. In fact some will criticize, judge, ridicule and even attack you. BE YOURSELF anyway, your value and worthiness have nothing to do with anything or anyone outside of yourself.

Find your tribe and love them fiercely. Your tribe consists of loving, supportive, heartfelt, vulnerable, messy, complicated, inspiring, all kinds of badass people and they cannot wait to meet you.

Trust Yourself. Your intuition, that inner sense and knowing without being able to explain how or why you “just know”, trust it. Justifying, rationalizing, people pleasing, anything not aligned with your values….Let. It. Go. I promise, it will clear and open up space for all kinds of magical and amazing people and experiences to arrive.

As Brene Brown writes: “Don’t shrink, don’t puff up, just stand your sacred ground”. Don’t dim your light for the comfort of anyone else, don’t shrink and hide yourself away, you’re here to be as absolutely you as you can possible be.

Anything (people, relationships, situations) that seems to require force or that simply don’t fit aren’t worth your time and energy.

Get crystal clear on what your highest core values are and evaluate everything in your life by whether it aligns with those values. Integrity, Respect, Trust, Humor, Loyalty, Honesty, Authenticity.

No. It’s a complete sentence. Remember that in some cases saying no is actually saying a huge and heartfelt YES to yourself. And that is beautiful.

My dear former self, I can’t tell you that the next thirteen years will be easy. They won’t be and you’ll have tremendous moments of self doubt and internal criticism. I can tell you that I’m standing on the other side cheering you on and there is much wisdom waiting within the path you’re about to embark upon.
