Charlotte Area 10k Race

20170819_101335I’m a runner, not a marathon or super distance runner, not even super fast but more recreational. Being outside, competing only against myself, pushing and stretching my limits, being covered in sweat. It’s a form of therapy as well as fitness.

Last year I decided I was retiring from 5k races which were the vast majority of races I’d done over the years. They just aren’t a stretch or real challenge for me and so I’d rather focus on fewer official races but with more challenging distances.

I did the Cooper River Bridge 10k a few years ago and last November did the Charlotte Marathon as part of a relay team and my leg was the last 6.2 miles.

Last weekend a friend and I did the OrthoCarolina 10k race and it was SO much fun!!! The 10k distance is a happy medium between challenge and still within the realm of possibility. I definitely recommend this one for anyone who hasn’t tried it yet.

It is August so it was warm but the race was well organized, parking was easy and the course had some nice downhills along with some uphills that in Charlotte it’s hard to avoid.

As we go into Fall the amount of area running races really ramps up and there are plenty of options to choose from. One of the websites I’ve used a lot to find races is Running In the USA

I haven’t chosen my next race yet but have a goal to do two more of at least 8k distance this year. What running races do you love here in the Charlotte area?
