When Buying a Home in Charlotte NC, When Do You Get the Keys?

When will you get the keys to the Charlotte NC home you buy?  Not necessarily (though sometimes) at the closing/settlement meeting.

The actual closing on a home in Charlotte NC isn’t officially done until AFTER the settlement meeting where you sign all of the closing documents.  The signing is just one piece of the closing process and it’s not a guarantee that you’ll get the keys to your new home at that meeting.

The loan funds have to arrive (to the closing attorney’s trust account) and the deed has to be recorded for the closing to be officially finished. Not to mention the sellers paperwork has to be done too (more complex with out of town or corporate sellers)

The most common reason buyers won’t get keys to the home they’re buying at the settlement meeting – closing late in the day or any time when it’s not possible for the deed to be recorded that same day.

Signing the closing paperwork on the Charlotte NC home you’re buying on a Friday afternoon might “seem” like a good idea, after all then you’d be all set to start moving over the weekend.

BUT….if it’s too late in the day OR for any reason there’s a delay in any part of the closing process (seller signatures, loan funds, recording) the home won’t be officially yours and in many cases..no keys for you!

Buying a bank owned home in Charlotte NC? It’s a very common bank requirement that buyers do NOT get keys till after the deed’s recorded.  And that may or may not be the same day you sign the closing paperwork.

When buying a home in Charlotte, it’s possible that you might get the keys the same day as you sign all of the closing documents, but it’s not a 100% guarantee.

Delays in closing can and do happen, planning to close anytime after Friday morning is running a risk that the home you’re buying won’t actually be yours that same day.

So when will you get the keys to the Charlotte NC home you’re buying? A good rule of thumb is after the CLOSING process is completely finished (after the deed’s recorded).
