This is inspired by a real life encounter in the world of real estate in Charlotte NC…the details will remain anonymous but it’s an important reminder in customer service and what really matters because whether it’s a fellow professional or a potential client – it’s NOT all about you.
Really and truly, no one CARES how awesome the company you work for is, what services that company has or how magnificent and just what a high opinion you have of yourself.
It’s not a company name or logo or anything else you want to hang on your office wall that will have the biggest impact on a consumer’s decision of whether (or not) to work with you.
It’s your behavior, your actions, whether they feel confident in your professional ability….whether they feel like THEY are a priority and that you’re taking the time to listen and seek to understand their concerns while offering guidance.
And none of that has anything at all to do with your company. In fact if all you do is talk about how awesome your company is it starts to turn into “blah, blah, blah” to the consumer. And really, they don’t care!
Instead of focusing on the awesomeness that is (supposedly) you and the company you work for, how about focusing on what’s important to the consumer. You know, your potential client?
If your behavior and actions consistently demonstrate a lack of care, concern, and a general apathy to client needs, anything you say about our company or yourself starts to sound very hollow.
Though on the bright side it does make an encounter with a competent and consumer oriented professional seem like a true breath of fresh air!!! So I guess I should say THANKS 🙂
