Ok, I don’t even have a landline phone and wouldn’t even think about this if it didn’t keep happening while out with home buyers.
When your Charlotte NC home’s for sale, if you have an answering machine make sure to turn off any volume or speaker function so you don’t treat any buyers to your phone messages!
The most bizarre (and funniest) time a buyer and I were treated to some free entertainment from a home seller’s answering machine the sister of the homeowner called, and left a very loooong and detailed message. The sister went on and on about DRAMA happening with the homeowner’s kids, husband and other family members.
The buyer and I stood in the kitchen in disbelief at what we were hearing, it was like an impromptu soap opera being narrated during our showing.
Oh, and there’s also the potential you could unintentionally give a buyer confidential info via your answering machine. Do you really want them hearing your divorce attorney’s office calling, the bank or collection agency about late payments, your listing agent about that price reduction you’re planning?????
Play it safe and if you do have an answering machine shut that volume OFF for the entire time your house is on the market, because really you never know who may call to leave a message…and who might be there to hear it!
Of course, if I’m the buyer’s agent showing your home I’ll be all ears to any messages we may overhear.
