Buying A Charlotte NC Home Should Not Be An Impulse Purchase!

Buying a home is not for everyone and it shouldn’t be treated like an impulse purchase.  I don’t care what the popular notion is, home ownership is not the right choice for everyone. It requires commitment and responsibility so if you’re not ready or don’t want that responsibility you should not be buying a home.

Just because you may have $5,000 available on a credit card doesn’t mean you should go spend it all and just because you “could” buy a home doesn’t mean you should. That $5,000 will take a loooooong time to pay back if you make minimal monthly payments and a house can turn into a nightmare if you buy without thinking that decision through.

Some questions to ask yourself before considering purchasing a home:

-Do you have money in savings? In addition to money for a down payment having money in savings to cover unexpected expenses is a must.

-Are you prepared for the maintenance and upkeep of a home? When something breaks it will be your responsibility. Houses require maintenance and upkeep which costs time and money.

-What’s your goal in buying a home? Looking to make a quick profit is NOT a valid answer, this is not the stock market. Real estate is long term regardless of what you may have seen on TV.

-Are you living within your means? At the end of the month do you have money left over for fun or is all of your income going to debt? In addition to your mortgage payment, would you have enough money for luxury items like food, gas, clothing?

Becoming a homeowner requires consideration.  Really looking at whether or not it’s the right choice for you and whether you’re prepared for the responsibility. It’s OK if you’re not, home ownership can be extremely rewarding but it isn’t always glamorous and shouldn’t be taken lightly.

If buying a Charlotte, NC home is truly your goal and you’re ready to take on the responsibility of home ownership, take the time to really think about that decision and start working on putting yourself in a position to be a truly qualified home buyer.

I realize these questions may not be as fun as an online home search and looking at pictures of homes for sale but successfully buying and owning a home is much more complex and should never be an impulse purchase!
