For buyers considering relocating to or moving within the Charlotte NC area, schools can be a major consideration. When researching a location, sometimes a school will actually narrow the areas in which you’d like to live. Just as neighborhood and home style are important, schools can be a major criteria for some home buyers.
No one else can interpret information, performance or resources that a given school offers and what factors are most important to you and your children. You know your child/children better than anyone so it follows that you are the only one who can decide which schools would be most appealing and a good fit.
In addition to the individual school or school system websites, there are some other resources that may be helpful when you’re considering a move. The answer to what you consider a “great” school doesn’t necessarily have a general answer. It will be a very personal decision and the best person to make that decision is you!
Some of the websites that offer school performance data and reviews are:
Statewide school performance for NC, check out: NC School Report Cards
The Charlotte Mecklenburg School System: Charlotte Mecklenburg County Schools
A national website which includes forums and feedback from parents: Great Schools
Union County NC School System (located southeast of Charlotte): Union County NC Public Schools
Each buyer will have their own “must have” list when searching for a home and if schools are important to the buyer, they’re most definitely a consideration for a home search! Not all real estate listings in Charlotte NC will include the assigned schools (and even if they do it’s a good idea to double check when it’s important to the buyer!)
One of the tools that I use to research current school assignments for the current and upcoming year is an address based search: County Address Information Center. Also included is information about trash collection, voting, nearby parks, and services for that address.
